Subject: Grassroots Coach Education and National C Licence Registration Open
Ontario Soccer is pleased to announce new Grassroots Coach Education courses and National “C”
Licence courses. The National “C” Licence courses are a hybrid-delivery format with a theory
component delivered online and in-person practical component will take place at the Ontario Soccer
Centre.
Grassroots Coach Education Courses
To support coaches in the membership seeking to meet minimum requirements to be assigned as a
Team Official, Ontario Soccer is offering the practical component of all grassroots coach education
courses. These courses offer an introduction to coaching, at each respective age stage as defined by
Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development Framework, in order for coaches to provide a safe
and fun environment for all players in their Club’s programs.

The in-person, on-field sessions shall be held at the Ontario Soccer Centre’s Indoor Field (7601 Martin
Grove Rd, Vaughan, ON L4L 9E4). For more information on each of the grassroots coach education

National C Licence Courses
Overview:
The National “C” Licence is the entry-level course for the Licensing Stream pathway that prepares the
coach to progress to the Advanced Coach Education Program whether in the Development Stream
(Children or Youth) or Performance Stream (National B & A). The “C” Licence involves the facilitation
of learning opportunities for the coach to develop an understanding of the coaching process.
What do you learn?
The “C” Licence content involves theoretical and practical components focusing on holistic, effective
coaching. The workshop modules cover content including:
- Vision, Mission, Values;
- Understanding the Person, the Practice & the Play;
- Safe Sport, Mental Health & Well-being in coaching;
- The Coaching Process;
- Designing and delivering a training session;
- Introduction to the Principles of Play;
- Developing the Individual Player; and,
- Introduction to the use of Technology in Coaching.
Coaches who obtain a “C” Licence Certification will be able to be a Head Coach in some Regional
Leagues and an Assistant Coach in the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL). Please refer to
each league’s rules & regulations for up-to-date information on Coach Licensing Requirements.
What are the course pre-requisites?
Prior to registering for the C Licence course, coaches must complete the following:
- Learn to Train Theory OR Soccer for Life Theory (certified preferred)
- Make Ethical Decisions Course + Make Ethical Decisions Online Evaluation
- Respect in Sport Online Module
- Making Headway in Soccer Online Module
- NCCP Emergency Action Plan
- Rule of Two
Structure of the C Licence course

Hybrid Delivery: the course will consist of eight (8) online sessions, two (2) hours in duration, and
concluding with a single, full in-person day on-field.

Please note: 100 per cent attendance and engagement is required for the duration of these courses.
Coaches must be in a workspace that allows them to actively participate in the course online with
their cameras on.

$850
Application and registration
Coaches are required to apply for these courses via Coach Centre, providing proof of their completion
of the pre-requisites. Upon being approved, coaches are then able to register for the course they are
interested in.
